Top 10 Festive Starters

Top 10 Festive Starters

There’s a lot of pressure that surrounds cooking the “Perfect Christmas Dinner” so understandably some people feel a bit overwhelmed and aren’t sure where to start! So, don’t panic let’s start at the beginning – the starters!

Personally, starters are my favourite part of Christmas Dinner as it’s the only part you can be really creative with and throw caution to the wind and try something new. To help get your creative juices flowing here are my top 10 favourite festive starters:

1)      Chicken Liver and Brandy Paté. There is something wonderfully comforting about a beautifully toasted slice of ciabatta smothered lovingly with rich, smooth chicken liver paté. Try my delicious recipe here.

2)      Sweet Potato Soup. I find this soup to be a great alternative to the same old tomato soup, plus, sweet potato soup is not only in season at the moment, but is so easy to make.

3)      Cheesy Stuffed Mushrooms. I love this starter as you can add almost anything you like to the basic recipe, garlic and parsley are my personal favourites but you can add anything you like, meaning you will never get board of this starter. They are also great as canapés if you are looking for something a little more warming at your Christmas party.

4)      Brie Baked in Puff Pastry. A rich and creamy starter that feels luxurious with every mouthful.

5)      Cured Salmon. This is a great starter if you are short on time as you can prepare it at least three days in advance.

6)      Cheese Soufflé. I find this can be a little more tricky that the previous starters but is guaranteed to be a hit with your guests.

7)      Cranberry Glazed Sticky Chicken Wings. Great if you really feel like breaking from tradition, just remember to leave some finger bowls on the table!

8)      Spinach and Goats Cheese Ravioli. An unusual starter that will remind you of lazy days spent in the Italian sun.

9)      Stilton and Celery Soup. A really tasty starter which is also great after Christmas to use up any leftover stilton you may have had from your cheese boards.

10)   Mushroom Paté. A perfect alternative to chicken liver paté, I always have a vegetarian option available for my guests just encase.
